Dr. Laura Chonko is a graduate of North Olmsted High School. She attended the University of Toledo where she studied Biology. Dr. Chonko received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1999 from The Ohio State University. Dr. Chonko is passionate about nutrition and how it relates to ocular health and prevention of eye disease. She studied with the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, receiving a Holistic Health Coach certification in 2014. She earned a fellowship from the Ocular Nutrition and Wellness Society in 2015, an endeavor requiring over 150 continuing education hours in nutrition, submission of a case report or research paper, and in-person oral examination during the prestigious annual Academy of Optometry conference.
Dr. Chonko enjoys sharing her passion and knowledge about eye health and wellness and has given numerous health talks in the community. Dr. Chonko is excited to be working in one of her favorite stores, Costco. She is most enthused about using the Optomap, which is an amazing instrument that takes a wide-field photo of the back of the eye, the retina. “Many people say that the eye is the window to the soul. While that may be true, the eye is more accurately the window to the body. It’s the only place in the body we can non-invasively view blood vessels, and looking in the eye, we can ascertain quite a bit of information about a person’s general health,” Dr. Chonko says. |
